Artificial hearts are a still relatively new technology, and have only been proven to work successfully in the last few years. There are negatives that have been pointed out that provide a lot of room for improvement in the future.
-One negative is the mechanical parts that are prone to wear and tear. Artificial hearts are not secure to last very long and new materials need to be tested for longer lasting usage.
-Artificial hearts require a permanent external driver and dependance on external power supply. This can make the artificial heart a very impractical device that intrudes on every day living.
Despite disadvantages like these, it is still a better alternative to the BiVAD system. If these problems can be experimented on and improved over the years to come, artificial hearts will become a much more efficient system.
